• The monthly report - August 2003

redemption in a blog received 6701 visits for this month of August 2003. This is also the first time my weblog has gotten a Google PageRank, the first being 3 and finally increased to 5 after the recent Google major update. What can I say? Google loves weblogs!

    Other interesting stuff:

    • For some unknown reason, pages from https://chuyeow.wtf/ were unlisted on Google for a few weeks. They have started to re-appear in the recent major Google update. Why did they disappear? Some possible reasons I thought of:

      • my DNS not working correctly for a time: there was a time when DNS stopped working from several locations, but my host promptly resolved this.
      • my updating of blog pages from HTML to .php pages: not likely, but the site did stop being listed almost immediately after I did the switch.
    • I'm finding redemption in a blog has made a few people's blogrolls and feed subscriptions (like Bloglines. Who are you people? C'mon introduce yourselves and let me have a peek into why you read my weblog :).

Until next month, and thanks for reading!

  • Stumped by regular expressions? Try the Regex Coach

Peter Bowyer's entry on The Regex Coach - interactive regular expressions alerted me to the very excellent Regex Coach.

The Regex Coach allows you to experiment with your regular expression (regex) and quickly determine how it would match your target string. It would be a very useful tool for trying out all any examples in any tutorials or books you may be reading. Also serves as a good testing platform for verifying your regex interactively (as opposed to writing it in your script, running it, and then checking the results). I wish I had this when I was learning regex.

  • 2nd installment of A Second Voice

Dave Shea has published the 2nd installment of "A Second Voice". This 2nd article is entitled Standards: Designing For the Future by Ian Lloyd. In it, Ian gives a personal account of his experiences promoting Web Standards in the workplace and his thoughts on what's holding people back from accepting and practising them.

As before, I'm posting this in hope it gets passed on as "word of blog". Essential reading for web developers and designers alike.
