  New blog on Mozilla Firebird nightlies

  Jesse Ruderman has started The Burning Edge, a blog that helps Mozilla Firebird users "decide which nightlies to use". Finally a convenient way to find out what's in those nightly builds.

  I was so glad to see this, that I got the most recent nightly immediately:

  "Go to referrer" bookmarklet

  Apparently, Simon Willison's surfing habit is similar to mine, judging from his entry on On blogging technique and better tabbed browsing.

  I've always found the problem of losing the "back" button particularly annoying when opening multiple tabs in Mozilla Firebird via middle-clicking (which opens pages in a new tab). Jesse Ruderman's "go to referrer" bookmarklet solves this bit of annoyance for me, at least until this is implemented directly into Firebird or as an extension.

  Google's new built-in calculator

  This is interesting - Google now has a built-in calculator function that works whenever you enter a mathematical expression in your standard Google search box.

  Now you can ask Google what is 3 times 4(same as 3 * 4) , 11 squared, the value of pi, the no. of kilometres in 1 mile and even trigonometry questions like sine(45 degrees).

  • Genetic Algorithms Warehouse is an excellent resource with collections of links to tutorials, papers, recommended books, software libraries, and essays. Part of AI Depot.
  • The Genetic Programming Notebook is a huge collection of links related to GA(Genetic Algorithms) and GP(Genetic Programming). There is also a GP tutorial. *
  • Genetic Algorithm Classifiers is a final year project by Gabriel Kevorkian and Marko Milek

  that is "study of genetic algorithms and, in particular, of their application in event classification and feature selection". Their classification algorithm is implemented as a Java applet.
